The attackers wanted to occupy the land that was foiled with the help of area people who reached the spot after knowing the incident.

He said the armed men hurled life threats to the villagers on resistance.

The accused had also cut down a number of trees and made away with them.

For this, he said Iqbal had sent his son Wasif along with Christians to flatten the graves. He said they succeeded to damage hundreds of graves that infuriated the area people who had been demanding exemplary punishment for the accused people.

He claimed that police had been favouring the influential politician and provided him and opportunity to seek pre-arrest bail. The tractor of Iqbal used in flattening the graves has also not been taken into custody and still present at his outhouse that was adding fuel to the fire.

Villagers are planning to stage protest demonstration against police for dealing the accused leniently, he added.

SHO Muridwala told it was an old graveyard which had no space for burial now and Muslims were using another graveyard. He said eight accused were arrested and sent on judicial remand

He said all nominated accused of the case had secured pre-arrest bails.

The police mistakenly added section 295-c in the case that has now been replaced with appropriate section of 297 of PPC, he added.

He said incident happened mistakenly rather with any planning and villagers had also realized the facts.
